The CMYK to HEX formula
Convert each percentage to 0–1 and compute R = 255 × (1 − C) × (1 − K), G = 255 × (1 − M) × (1 − K) and B = 255 × (1 − Y) × (1 − K). Round each value and write it as two hex digits to get the familiar #rrggbb code.
Bringing print colors to the web
CMYK values from a print spec convert cleanly, but the result can look slightly different from the printed piece because paper, ink and lighting all shift color. Check the converted color on screen next to a printed sample before locking it into a design system.
Next steps
Once you have the HEX code, generate a full 50–950 scale from it with the color scale generator, or check text contrast before using it in an interface.
Frequently asked questions
- How do you convert CMYK to HEX?
- Each RGB channel is 255 × (1 − ink) × (1 − K). For cmyk(59%, 58%, 0%, 5%), red is 255 × 0.41 × 0.95 ≈ 99, green ≈ 102 and blue ≈ 242, which is #6366f2. Then write each channel as two hexadecimal digits.
- What input formats does this accept?
- cmyk(59%, 58%, 0%, 5%), plain percentages like 59 58 0 5 or 59, 58, 0, 5, and fractions like 0.59 0.58 0 0.05.
- Why doesn't my HEX match the brand guide?
- Brand guides usually pick a HEX value by eye for screens rather than converting mathematically, and print CMYK values often come from an ICC profile. If the guide gives both, use its HEX for the web.
